Future Me: Recognising the Hidden Curriculum

Forming strong foundations that children's futures can be built upon

At Crosshall Junior School, along with most schools in the country, we teach the full range of curriculum subjects.  However, there are some matters, skills and processes that do not fit into the everyday curriculum but are essential to develop for a successful adulthood.

A child spends most of his/her life outside of school.  What they do external to the school has an impact on life in school, and vice versa.  Future Me seeks to recognise the achievements that the child has attained when not in school.

Our Future Me curriculum acknowledges all aspects of pupils' lives and has career-related learning at its core. This careers advice and learning takes place within curriculum subjects, as part of Future Me Talks and through a pupil's own exploration at home.

In all four year groups, pupils work towards achieving pledges that are rewarded with badges that pupils can wear proudly as part of their school uniform.

Since 2013, Crosshall Junior has run a curriculum inspiring social action, improving home-school links, nurturing talents, improving career awareness, and promoting risk taking.

It is not reliant on academic ability and seeks to develop the skills, knowledge and processes in all children that are needed for adult life and future successes.

Future Me can be easily integrated into a school’s current curriculum.  External sources such as Whole Education, OfSTED and other head teachers, as well as our own local community, have all acknowledged and valued the Future Me curriculum work.
